Life may be hard, but not impossible. Mental and emotional obstacles can be used as steppingstones for good and productive lives. Tragedy can divide a life into 'before and after' yet that can become a platform from which healing and growth can occur. Identities formed and reinforced with lies can be realigned with truth.
One of my goals in the therapeutic alliance is to provide a safe place for people to learn how to begin to heal. A place where insight can be gained, lies replaced with truth and tools can be acquired to enable a new future despite what may be a painful past. I use a client centered approach to treatment, where you are a partner in the therapy process allowing people to discover what will work best for them.
I am a graduate of Liberty University and one of the highlights of my career is meeting with interns and new counselors providing an arena of support and encouragement as they develop their own skill set to walk with others on their journey. I offer individual and group supervision and one of my joys is watching new counselors grow in their confidence, insights, and strengths. I learn from each person I have the privilege of meeting with, each one has unrealized potential and I look forward to drawing that out.
After growing up in small town Texas surrounded by her sports-fanatic family, Alexandra headed to Texas A&M University where she had a lot of good, wholesome fun and studied a little International Arts & Culture. Her post-grad life first looked like circling the globe to see what God is doing in his church world-wide, then teaching elementary Montessori in the wonderland that is Montana while helping to plant a church on a college campus. Amongst the many joys and sorrows along the way, it became clear that one of Alexandra’s favorite gifts to give was that of her presence. You’re welcome people! It’s okay to laugh at that. She knows it sounds a bit obnoxious. But truly, she saw God move through being available to people, asking questions, and listening as they shared their stories. This deep enjoyment of being with people where they’re at while longing with them for better days led Alexandra to walk through the counseling program at Dallas Theological Seminary. She is so grateful for the chance to study the Bible, theology, and psychology in an integrative program and is walking away from that season having learned to more deeply receive God’s love.
Alexandra believes that healing comes in the context of relationship. She desires to create a space where clients can experience warmth and wonder. Alexandra would be especially honored to work with your preschool and elementary kiddos using play therapy. She also very much enjoys working with preteens, teenagers, and 20 somethings, particularly those who are struggling to find purpose, navigate life transitions, and those who feel stuck in dealing with depression, anxiety, and obsessive-compulsive tendencies. Alexandra wants you to know that she is happy to work with people of any and all faith backgrounds. That being said, she is most passionate about caring for the well-being of the church and considers it an honor to walk with believers through difficult seasons and into even greater freedom and flourishing.
Alexandra is clinically supervised by Patti Smith, LPC CPCS.
